The Story Of Healthcare In Iraq

Health care has always been a top priority for Iraq and it had developed the most westernized system for health care across entire the entire country. Distinct to the other countries of its neighborhood Iraq which went for simpler measures employed a fully fledged medicinal system and urbane hospitals. Mortality rates and the deaths during pregnancy were also under control. Free health care was accessible by most of the urban and rural population before the deadly warfare took place.

What war did was not only breakdown the country economically but also it made sure that all the hospitals along with its classic facilities were ruined. Everything from power generation to water treatment plants, doctors to health budgets was shunned. What was left was disorder and helplessness. Various diseases aggravated with HIV/AIDS making its mark considerably. All those who were prone to it were victimized and rests were left in the fear of facing it. The entire model of the government was destroyed and what was left is erratic water and faulty electricity. With changing times, the situations are civilizing but not as much though. The cash flow was not regularity since 2003 and thus purchase of medical services and equipments was still a challenge for the general public. Also, doctors were leaving the country because fear and adversities too.

Post-war the situations have stabilized with the help of planned programs. The programs are based on the new technologies but it has not solved the prevalent problems. Even after four years from the date of conclusion of conflicts, the process had not been put in place. The allegations are thrown upon the military for such an invasion and the same humanitarian agencies who are working in Iraq since a long time are finding it difficult to tackle this crisis under the present administration. Public infrastructure and healthcare tools are high in demand but slightest in supply. Urban areas are still revived faster but the parish has been isolated with most of the patients unattended.

While the hospitals are lacking the supplies, there are many incomplete hospitals standing as graveyards. Not only that, there are high equipped and technological tools which were imported and never used. Equipments were simply locked in the store rooms where they are least serving their purpose. The authorities say that a proper channel has to be formed, but till the channelization and organization takes place a large number of Iraqis would lose their lives. For fixing the system today security is a must and it would come only by order. No more black marketing and bribery should be allowed. It is tough to isolate the system completely but at least efforts must be put to bring in some order.

Today, what Iraq wants is a new reformation initiative not only to make its old medicinal system work but also to save its population from massacres. Iraq can also create an original healthcare model like the one it had previously but for all this to happen, it would need finance, security and support from the people.
